Desert Island Scores

I'm really tired, so this'll be short and to the point. These will probably be some pretty obvious choices, but as I said before, sleep deprivation does strange things to you.

1. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK - JOHN WILLIAMS
No prizes for guessing this one would be first on the list. As it should be.

2. CONAN THE BARBARIAN - BASIL POLEDOURIS
Better than Lord of the Rings. No, really.

3. THE FINAL CONFLICT - JERRY GOLDSMITH
Better than most things in the world ever.

4. STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE - JERRY GOLDSMITH
Better than THE FINAL CONFLICT.

5. STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN - JAMES HORNER
Not as good as TMP or TFC, but still a fine score.

6. JANE EYRE - JOHN WILLIAMS
Especially with the rip I have with Keisuke Wakao's track at the end.

7. INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM - JOHN WILLIAMS
The expanded version, naturally.

8. THE SEA HAWK - ERICH WOLFGANG KORNGOLD
Glorious.

9. E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL - JOHN WILLIAMS
Utterly, utterly essential.

10. THE IRON GIANT - MICHAEL KAMEN
Cheers me up no end and then makes me cry.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Art for the promotional release of the soundtrack to the video game. The first cover and the tray were created for myself, the second cover was a request from someone for a cover that would fit with the 2004 Sony releases of the original trilogy.

Star Wars - "Archival Edition"

Art for an "archival edition" I did of the original Star Wars. I say archival, it's really just the 1997 RCA Victor release re-sequenced. As with its sequels, art is based on the original 1977 LP.

Star Trek Nemesis (Complete)

For the NEMESIS complete soundtrack. Schematic on the back is the Romulan warbird "Scimitar".

Star Trek: Insurrection (Complete)

Art for the complete INSURRECTION. Schematic on the tray is of the captain's yacht, as seen in the film.

Star Trek: First Contact (Complete)

Art for the complete FIRST CONTACT. Tray colour scheme is based on a pair of Patrick Ewing sneakers.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Complete)

Art for the complete STAR TREK VI. Not sure why I decided to go with purple, I guess it's because of the pinkish-purplish Klingon blood.

Star Trek - The Motion Picture (Complete)

Art for the three-disc complete soundtrack. I've followed kind of the same format with my Trek covers, using schematics of the ships, although this one doesn't really fit too much with the others.

Return of the Jedi - "Archival Edition"

Art for my "archival edition" of RETURN OF THE JEDI. As with STAR WARS and EMPIRE, it's based on the original LP art.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Expanded)

Art for the expanded score from the fourth Indiana Jones picture. Inspired by the scene with Spalko's dossier, this is kind of a thought of what kind of dossier the Russkies might have on Indy.

Keisuke Wakao Plays John Williams

Alternate art for the ultra-rare album featuring Japanese Oboe player Keisuke Wakao playing some of Williams' greatest work. I tried to go for classic images based on some of the material, but with a Japanese flavour.

The Empire Strikes Back - "Kenner Edition"

I did a RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK based on the old Kenner toy packaging, and decided to do the same with this, an alternate cover for the 1997 RCA Victor release.

The Empire Strikes Back - "Archival Edition"

A cover for an "archival edition" I put together for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. It's wholly based on the original LP art.

Conan The Barbarian

An alternative cover for Varese's now out of print expanded CONAN. The cover uses art from the Age of Conan game (I was kind of going for a Frazetta look and couldn't find a decent FF picture in hi-res), and the tray has art from what I believe is a Marvel comic.

Casino Royale

This is a combination of the OST and the exclusive extra tracks that were released on iTunes. I wanted the cover to have the same feeling as the opening credits.

The Dark Knight

Cover for a re-edit of the OST and disc two of the limited edition.

Batman Begins

Cover for the BATMAN BEGINS expanded bootleg. Cover is based on an early issue of Detective Comics, redrawn on Photoshop by myself.

Back To The Future - The Score

A cover for a mixture of the "Delorean" boot together with the songs from the OST. Criminal that very little from the score has been officially released.

Back To The Future, Part II Recording Sessions

For a bootleg of the recording sessions for the score. This cover was a bit tricky as there's not a huge amount of hi-res art available. The font is called "Decker" and is patterned after (at least in my mind) to the one used in the opening credits of the trilogy.

Alien 3 (Expanded)

A reasonably simple cover for Elliot Goldenthal's superb score to David Fincher's movie debut. The fonts are styled after the opening credits of the movie.

About Soundtrack Cover Art

Welcome. As a fan of both soundtracks and cover art, I sometimes either find coming into my possession (either by my or someone else's hands) versions of soundtracks that do not have cover art, or sometimes I just don't like the art originally provided. As such, I make my own. My aim is to make my covers look as if they are professionally produced, and as such like something you could pick up in a store. I don't think I've got there yet though. For the record, my favourite one so far is the Keisuke Wakao Plays John Williams cover.

Comments welcome.
